Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to Year 2, 2022/23

What an exciting year of learning and growing we have planned for you!

In the Autumn term, our topic theme is Travel and Transport.  We will be finding out about the history and development of different modes of transport, and writing all about the journeys of Ligthning MCQueen in the movie Cars and James Henry Trotter in Roald Dahl’s James and The Giant Peach.  After half-term, we will be learning about chocolate production and packaging, and exploring the chocolate factory of Mr Willy Wonka in our descriptive writing.

In the Spring term, our topic theme is Fire and Ice.  We will be exploring life in London at the time of The Great Fire, using Terry Deary’s Horrible Histories Guide to London.  After half-term, we will be learning about the life and habitats of penguins, and reading the stories of 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental and the movie Happy Feet.

In the Summer term, our topic theme is African Adventures. Building on their learning in year 1 about pets, we will learn and write about animal and plant life in the African savannah through the story of The Lion King, and the habitats of the English countryside through The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Graham.  We will plant flower seeds and bulbs and write about what plants needs to grow well.  After half term, we will learn about the seaside, waste and recycling, persuading others in our writing to care for God’s creation.

We hope you will enjoy a fantastic learning journey through Year 2,

Miss Turnbull (Class Teacher)
